The City of Cape Town has completed the signalization of the intersection of Japhta K Masemola Road and Lindela Road/ Nyanda Road in Khayelitsha.

Previously the traffic flow at the Nyati Avenue and Lindela Road crossings was regulated by a stop-sign. The City was concerned about the approximately 1 400 pedestrians, most of whom are learners crossing from the informal settlements north of Japhta K Masemola Road to the primary schools south of the road.

The new traffic signal will assist a great deal in enforcing compliance and improving pedestrian safety at this intersection.

The project was part of the three intersections that the City undertook to signalise earlier this year.

The three projects included the following:

  • Signalisation of the intersection of Japhta K Masemola Road and Nyati Avenue in Khayelitsha
  • Signalisation of the intersection of Japhta K Masemola Road and Lindela Road/Nyanda Road in Khayelitsha
  • Signalisation of an existing midblock crossing at Tafelsig Primary School on AZ Berman Drive between Bokkeveld Avenue and Langeberg Avenue in Mitchells Plain

The City will commence with the signalisation of the intersection of Japhta K Masemola Road and Nyati Avenue in Khayelitsha once all the logistics are in place.
