The MyCiTi stations in Atlantis and Table View now have roofing over the walkways and glass panels. The glass panels have been positioned to cover the side of the walkways so that commuters are protected from rain.
With the completion of this project, MyCiTi commuters will be protected from the harsh summer sun, rain and wind while they are waiting to board the bus.
Previously, the walkways connecting the four commuter platforms at the MyCiTi station in Atlantis and the three platforms at the station in Table View were exposed to weather elements.
‘We implemented this project to make our public transport system more convenient and safer to use. Also, the schools in the areas asked us to consider making the stations more commuter-friendly. We listened and now our commuters stand to reap the benefits – they will be sheltered from the sun, wind and rain while waiting for their buses,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.
‘The MyCiTi stations in Atlantis and Table View count among the busiest and cater for a great number of commuters on a daily basis. Improving their travelling experience and keeping our commuters safe and comfortable at our stations is a top priority for us,’ said Alderman Purchase.
Work had to be undertaken outside of MyCiTi operating hours to ensure that the MyCiTi service operates without any disruptions as these two stations are extremely busy.
Project funding was allocated as follows:
The construction work on both stations took seven months to complete.
‘I want to thank commuters for their patience during this time, and the residents from the surrounding areas as some of the work had to be done after hours,’ said Alderman Purchase.
