The widening and resurfacing of Buitengracht and Bloem Street in the Central Business District (CBD) commenced on Wednesday, 11 November 2020. The work is scheduled to be completed over a period of two weeks, pending unforeseen delays and weather permitting.

Roadworks in Kloof Road will commence on 16 November 2020.

Maintenance work in both areas will be carried out between 08:00 and 17:00, Monday to Saturday.

‘Our contractor uses asphalt when resurfacing our roads. This ensures that the roads stay in a good condition for longer and give motorists a safe and good driving experience,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

Traffic moving in both directions will be affected and flag personnel will manage traffic via a stop-and-go system with traffic in one direction at a time.

‘I want to implore with residents and motorists to take cognisance of the demarcated work areas which are set to regulate traffic flow and pedestrians. Residents will be allowed to park their vehicles in driveways as usual, however, this will be if and when access is available. Roadworks always come with a level of inconvenience. I want to thank residents for their patience, and for supporting us while the work is ongoing. Our road network is one of our biggest assets, and regular maintenance is pivotal in extending the longevity of the network,’ said Alderman Purchase.

No congestion is expected. Road users are, however, encouraged to consider alternative routes if possible.
