On 17 November 2021, the City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will commence with the resurfacing and road marking of residential roads within Maitland, Kensington and Thornton. The roadworks are scheduled for completion by 17 December 2021, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

Works will be implemented along the following roads:

  • Voortrekker Road between Beach Road and Albert Road in Maitland
  • Dapper Road in Kensington
  • 10th Avenue in Kensington
  • Wingfield Crescent in Kensington
  • Danker Street in Kensington
  • Heldersig Road in Thornton
  • Tambotie Road in Thornton
  • Sipres Avenue in Thornton

Work will take place from Monday to Saturday between 08:00 and 17:00.

The works are part of general routine maintenance and in keeping with our commitment to putting the safety of Cape Town residents, visitors and motorists first. As is the case with all roadworks, the project will come with a level of inconvenience. This includes traffic moving in both directions being affected, however, flag personnel will regulate traffic flow by means of a stop-and-go system.

We urge all road users to please be patient with us during the construction period and comply with the signage and instructions of the contractor to ensure that works are carried out with little or no disruption, and to also prevent delays.

Residents are advised that traffic flow will be impeded but residents will be granted local access to their properties as soon as the new surface treatment has dried. Vehicles may be parked in the demarcated area provided that they are removed before 08:30.

Although no congestion is expected in the area, we recommend that road users consider using alternative routes. We want to thank all residents for their cooperation and patience during this time.
