The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate is calling on the public to comment on the proposal to convert Constantiaberg Close in Plumstead, into a one-way. The public participation process is commencing on 3 June and the closing date for comments is 3 July 2021.
The Transport Directorate received numerous requests for Constantiaberg Close to be turned into a one-way road to improve traffic flow. An investigation was undertaken to determine the feasibility of the proposal.
On investigation, it was established that:
A number of driveway accesses are almost diagonal to the road, which makes it easier for motorists to reverse and continue in a clockwise direction around Constantiaberg Close.
Based on the investigation, it is proposed that converting Constantiaberg Close into a one-way for clockwise directional flow around the area would be the best solution to mitigate the situation. This proposal will improve traffic flow and the overall safety for road users.
The public participation process is in compliance with terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, which states that the public and interested parties or groups must be given the opportunity to submit comments, recommendations or input on such proposals to the municipality.
Residents and interested and affected parties are requested to please participate by submitting comments on the proposal.
Comments, recommendations and/or input can be submitted as follows:
Special assistance will be given to people who cannot read or write, people with special needs and other disadvantaged groups who are unable to submit written comments to have their inputs or comments recorded and submitted to the municipality.
