The City of Cape Town’s Transport and Urban Development Authority has commenced with various roadworks in the Table View and Flamingo Vlei areas. The roadworks will continue until the end of May 2018, from 07:30 until 17:00 on weekdays.

The roadworks in Table View will be implemented on the following roads:

  • Byron Road
  • Jansens Avenue
  • Shelley Street

Various roads in Flamingo Vlei will also be resurfaced. These include:

  • Sandpiper Crescent and Bolus Road between Merriman Lane and Hof Street
  • Merriman Lane between Fairway and Fairbridge Roads
  • Fairway Road between Hof Street and South Road
  • Hof Street between Pentz Drive and Fairway Road

Roads staff will regulate traffic flow along the roadworks in one direction at a time using a stop/go system.

Businesses and commuters who make use of the above-mentioned roads are advised that work areas will be temporarily demarcated to regulate traffic flow.

Vehicles may be parked in the demarcated area after 17:00 provided that they are removed before 07:30. Parked vehicles that obstruct the resurfacing operation will be moved or towed away.

‘I would like to urge motorists to exercise extra caution and patience. I also request all road users to comply with the rules and regulations, and to cooperate with the roads staff during the construction period. The contractor is using bitumen on the roads and it is very difficult and costly to remove the material from vehicles. I therefore appeal to motorists to park their vehicles in the demarcated areas during the day to ensure that the project runs as smoothly as possible for all,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Area North, Councillor Suzette Little.

As roadworks are inconvenient by nature, the City recommends that commuters consider making use of alternative routes where possible.

This project is implemented in accordance with the City’s Organisational Development and Transformation Plan which also prioritises regular maintenance to ensure the sustainability and lifespan of our assets, which is to the benefit of all who work and live in Cape Town.
