The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate advises residents and road users in Pinelands of roadworks along Alexandra Road between Raapenberg Road and Dellville Square. The work will commence on Thursday, 18 November 2021.

The City’s Road Infrastructure Management team will be resurfacing this portion of Alexandra Road over the next two months. Work will start on Thursday, 18 November 2021 and will be completed by 22 January 2022, if all goes according to plan.

The work will take place throughout the week from Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 15:30 and on Saturday and Sunday from 07:00 to 18:00.

The maintenance of this section of road is very important as it is a key route linking the N2 and industrial area of Ndebeni, and thus carries a large volume of traffic.

Although congestion is not expected, the City recommends that road users consider alternative routes where possible. We thank you for your cooperation and patience while we get this important work done as soon as possible to the benefit of all road users.

Traffic moving in both directions will be affected, however, flag personnel will direct traffic by means of temporary detours around the work area, which will be demarcated.

Residents are advised that if vehicles are parked in the road and obstruct the work, these will be moved or towed away. It is also important to note that it is difficult to remove bitumen from the bodies of vehicles. It is therefore in the interest of all residents and road users to comply with the traffic arrangements of the appointed contractor.

The roadworks will entail the removing of the top asphalt layer and replacing it with a brand new asphalt surface for a 1km long section of Alexandra Road.

Roads are identified and prioritised for resurfacing by the Roads Infrastructure Management team in the district during site visits and according to the relevant district office’s planned schedule. This schedule addresses each area within the district to ensure that the allocated operational budget is allocated equitably among all wards and suburbs.
