The National Minister of Transport has issued new directives to extend the operating times of public transport services that are transporting essential workers, and to increase the loading capacity of minibus-taxi vehicles during the lockdown period. These directives were published in the Government Gazette yesterday, 31 March 2020, and are applicable with immediate effect.

The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate advises commuters making use of public transport services to practice meticulous personal hygiene while travelling. The City also recommends that commuters consider travelling outside of the peak-hour periods as far as possible to limit contact with other commuters and to avoid crowded vehicles.

City to rehabilitate key portion of Giel Basson Drive

The City of Cape Town will commence with the rehabilitation of Giel Basson Drive on 31 March 2020. The City is investing R38 million into the project, where a key portion of Giel Basson Drive between the N1 and Voortrekker Road will be rehabilitated. Giel Basson Drive provides an important link to Voortrekker Road; the Elsies River industrial area and the Cape Town International Airport.
