The new minibus-taxi facility in Masiphumelele is now open for business after nearly 10 months of construction work and the finalisation of an operating agreement with local minibus-taxi operators. The City has spent nearly R16 million on creating a modern and resource-efficient transport hub for taxi operators and commuters.

Leading up to Mandela Day, the City of Cape Town’s Executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato, and Mayoral Committee Members Councillor Malusi Booi (Human Settlements) and Alderman Felicity Purchase (Transport) joined contractors at the Masiphumelele Phase 4 housing project to check on the progress of the project as well as to assist with painting houses and mixing mortar, among other building tasks.

City receives industry award for Strand sea wall project

The City of Cape Town recently received an award from the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) for the rehabilitation of the Strand sea wall. The project was recognised for technical excellence in the Marine and Harbour Category. This new sea wall was designed to withstand storms by deflecting water and sand, and to endure the impact of climate change for the next 30 years.
