Mitchells Plain will add its name to Open Streets Cape Town’s list of host areas following the event’s success in Bree Street on 17 January 2016.

Open Streets Cape Town is modelled on a concept which was first held in Colombia and aims to improve public life and policy on the design and use of public streets beyond just motor vehicles.

Previous events were held in Observatory, Woodstock and Langa and the public’s turnout is evident that Capetonians support this initiative and there exists a desire to enjoy shared public spaces that promotes safety, inclusivity and a true sense of community spirit.

The next event will take place in April 2016 in Mitchells Plain. Watch this space regarding the venue, date and time.

“The 2016 Open Streets events in the city centre and in Mitchells Plain, promise to build significantly on the foundation that has been established by the past successful events."

"It is my hope and that of the Transport for Cape Town team that Cape Town’s residents and visitors will take full advantage of the unique opportunity presented by these two Open Streets events to safely and freely walk, play, socialise and express themselves artistically,” says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.
