Transport for Cape Town (TCT) – the City of Cape Town’s transport authority – received special recognition at the 61st UITP World Congress and Exhibition in Milan, Italy.
UITP is the international organisation for public transport authorities and operators and its biennial congress draws mobility professionals from all over the world. Last night the President of UITP and Commissioner of Transport for London in the United Kingdom, Sir Peter Hendy, presented Melissa Whitehead, Commissioner of Transport for Cape Town, with a recognition award for achievements in public transport and for establishing a transport authority to address the transport needs of residents and visitors to Cape Town.
‘The City of Cape Town is the only city in Africa to be recognised at the UITP World Congress for the effort that we are making to radically improve public transport. We are extremely proud of this achievement which serves as a motivation to work even harder to improve our residents’ lives through affordable, safe and decent public transport,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron, from Milan.
